It's a hard one to answer really. With the advantage of never losing a game to the weather,(in the worst scenario of snow,I'd imagine you'd just sweep it off) and the monetary benefit of being able to hire it out ,to all and sundry,24/7,I must imagine the money just rolls in!
It would need to,because as you say,it is dear to install.
I would imagine the club would make money on the day if it kept the clubhouse and tea bar,for example ,open as well,so for them,its a win win situation.
Most clubs have a groundsman  and with him comes all the costs involved, e.g.Tractor,weedkiller etc,so you'd save on that for a start.
I suppose it's a matter of taste really,as some say it's the future while us old traditionalists say they would stick to grass, because if it was good enough for us back in the day,it should be good enough for today's pampered players!

Yep,as is the way with most Councils,they do b*gger all for anything connected to sport or leisure!
Used to have speedway and dogs there,but as some of the locals moaned about the noise,the place was refused a lease and a betting licence. That obviously didn't help the cause.
Got a feeling that houses are built on the site. What a surprise!
