think everyone knows that the squad should be about 17/18???
It's a fine line to play.
Admittedly,it saves the clubs' wage bill BUT we need to ask the following question.
As the reserve team no longer exists (as well as the U23s?),then is 17/18 enough? When you take the starting eleven and the 5 subs that travel,it doesn't leave enough,I feel, to cover the possibilities of people missing through injury,suspension,work and anything else that might crop up.
If we had a bigger squad,we could have at least kept them match fit by playing in the "stiffs". It would have also given enough new blood a chance to make their way into the first team,creating competition for places. No competition creates complacency!
If that's the boards' choice to reduce the squad,then so be it but we don't want to be losing games (in the hunt for promotion
),if we haven't got a good enough team to play on the day!
